August 1963
Writers: Stan Lee and H.E. Huntley
Artist: Don Heck
Our story begins with a bored Ant-Man and Wasp, who patrol the city but cannot find any crime in progress. To combat the Wasp's boredom, Hank decides that they should take a vacation. This being comics, they soon find adventure.
Two days later, Hank and Janet land in Greece. They decide to take a cruise around the islands of lore that Homer wrote about. While trying to find a boat, they overhear stories of a mysterious monster who is terrorizing the locals. No boat will agree to take on our heroes. One man decides that if they want to take their lives into their own hands, he will lend them his boat, but not any manpower.
Our heroes sail off. Before they know it, they run afoul of the monster... the one-eyed Cyclops of myth. The giant cyclops towers above our diminutive duo. He reaches down, lifts the ship into the air, and hauls it off. Ant-Man and Wasp decide to follow the giant. They find that the Cyclops is holding sailors captive. They also discover strange lights in the hills which seem to have control of the Cyclops.... and the source of the lights: aliens (naturally).
The aliens discuss their plot to take over the Earth and we learn that the Cyclops is nothing more than a robot. A kill order is given to the giant and he heads down the hill to destroy the captive sailors. Ant-Man attacks the Cyclops from within, while Wasp attempts to free the captives. Hank manages to twist some gears and alter some frequencies, after which the robot is under his control. He steers the behemoth back towards the invading aliens. Having decided that the troublesome humans are no longer worth the effort, the aliens flee the planet.
(I have to say that the heroes in the early '60s did their fair share of driving off alien invaders. Kudos, guys)
Next month is September 1963. That means it's time to Assemble.
